A problem to describe

What should a software quote include?

A good quote says, in plain sentences, what will be built, what will not, how you will know it works, how long it takes, what it costs and why, how changes are handled, and who owns and runs the result. If any of those is missing, ask for it in writing before you approve.

The seven things

  • Scope: what will be built, in sentences you understand.
  • Out of scope: what will not be built, so nobody assumes.
  • Acceptance: how you will know a version works, written before it is built.
  • Schedule: when you will see each version.
  • Price: the total and the reason for each line.
  • Changes: how a new request is priced, and who approves it.
  • Ownership and running: who owns the code, the accounts and the data, and who looks after it after launch.

Signs a quote is not ready

  • The price has no reasons attached.
  • Words like ongoing or as needed stand where a number should be.
  • Ownership is not mentioned.
  • Nothing says what happens if a version misses the scope.

How payment should work

Ask for payment tied to something you can see, such as a version you can try, rather than a date on a calendar. Paying in parts is common and fair. A price for paying everything at once can reasonably be lower.

How a LOJIK quote follows the list

A LOJIK quote says what is included, the timeline and who does what, and gives the reason for each line. Nothing starts until you approve it. You can pay all at once for a lower price, or in parts as each version is ready.

When LOJIK is not the right fit

LOJIK is probably not the right choice if:

  • You want an hourly arrangement with no fixed scope.
  • You are still under contract with another provider. Settle that first.
  • The scope is truly unknown and you want to explore for months. Start with a prototype or a review.
  • You need a formal tender process with several vendors on the same form.

What working with LOJIK costs

Start with a free plan on screen. A person then sends a price set for your business, and nothing starts until you approve it in writing.

  • The plan: free

Describe the problem and the plan fills in as you answer: the fix, what it includes and how long it takes.

  • Workflow Review: USD 1,500

For when you are not sure what to fix. One week on one task, ending in a written recommendation: build the fix, change how the work is done instead, or stop. If you go ahead with the fix within 30 days, the full fee counts toward its price.

  • Sprint: from USD 5,000

A scoped, priced, finished system built around how your business works. A person sets the price after reading your plan and gives the reason for each line.

  • Operate (we run it for you): a monthly plan per live workflow

LOJIK keeps the finished system online, watched and fixed, with small changes included. Optional, and you can cancel any month.

Prices are in US dollars. Companies in Mexico pay IVA on top.

How the work is done

What you can count on, whichever door you come in through.

  • You approve every quote.

A person at LOJIK sends a written price with the reason for each line. Nothing starts until you approve it.

  • A person answers.

Send your plan and a person at LOJIK replies within one business day. If we are not the right team, we tell you.

Questions

Should I accept a quote that is a range?

A range is fine for an early estimate. Before work starts, the final scope, schedule and price should each be one written statement.

Who should own the software?

Put it in writing before you approve. The quote should say who owns the code, the accounts it runs on and the data, and what happens to ownership when the work is finished.

What is an acceptance check?

A test written down before the build that says what must be true for a version to count as done. For example: a new order appears in the sheet within a minute.

How much does LOJIK cost?

The plan is free. A Workflow Review is USD 1,500, and the full fee counts toward the fix if you go ahead within 30 days. A Sprint starts at USD 5,000. Operate, where LOJIK runs the system for you, is a monthly plan per live workflow. A person sets the final price for your business, and you approve it in writing before anything starts.

Describe the problem. See the plan.

It takes about 3 minutes on screen, and a person at LOJIK reads it before any price.
